This page contains some book excerpts along with several pdf reprints from magazine articles Mr. Margulis has written.

DTP Software

http://www.quark.com	Quark Incorporated Quark Inc. is home to the QuarkXpress, the number one page layout program in the publishing industry.
http://www.adobe.com	Adobe Systems Inc. Adobe is probably the preeminent DTP software company. They wrote the PostScript page description language which started the DTP revolution. They also write and sell several industry standard programs including Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.
http://www.macromedia.com	Macromedia Makers of Freehand, and Fontographer along with several WWW authoring products including Dreamweaver and Flash.
http://www.extensis.com	Extensis Extensis specializes in producing plugins and add-ons to existing programs such as Photoshop and QuarkXpress. They also produce a couple of stand-alone products of their own including a preflight program and Suitcase, a font management program available for both Mac OS and Windows.
http://www.markzware.com	Markzware Markzware specializes in DTP preflighting solutions with their Flightcheck line of software. They also have some QuarkXpress Xtensions and tools for Adobe Pagemaker
http://www.corel.com	Corel Corporation CorelDraw, a hugely popular Windows drawing program, never really caught on in the professional publishing industry, largely because of the shaky PostScript code it generated. In recent years, Corel has gotten serious about making inroads into the industry, porting CorelDraw to the Mac, cleaning up their PostScript code generation and purchasing the KPT line of software from MetaCreations.

This is a great introduction if you know very little about PostScript. It includes an overview of exactly what PostScript is, a database of PostScript errors along with troubleshooting advice, a history of PostScript and more links! You need to check out this site!

Here you can find a large number of pdf's about various aspects of PostScript including the PostScript Language Reference. A lot of this information is fairly technical in nature.
http://cgm.cs.mcgill.ca/~luc/ postscript.html	Luc Devroye's Postscript Page Mr. Devroye, who also maintains the "On snot and fonts" page linked to above, in the fonts section, has this page with lots of links to PostScript information, utilities and more!

Compression/FTP Software

http://www.aladdinsys.com/	StuffIt Deluxe Long the standard for compression software on the Mac platform, StuffIt is now also available for Windows. In addition to the commercial Deluxe version they also make available the shareware StuffIt Lite and the freeware StuffIt Expander. StuffIt offers several compression formats including Zip and UU Encode.

http://www.winzip.com/	WinZip WinZip is probably the best known and most popular compression program for the MS Windows platform. Distributed as shareware.

http://www.fetchsoftworks.com/	Fetch Fetch is a popular Mac ftp program. Easy to use and very affordable at only $25.
